What if my document does not have a notarial certificate?
A notarial certificate is the section of a document that states what notarial act is being performed, such as an acknowledgment or a jurat. It typically includes specific legal wording and is signed by the notary at the time of notarization. If your document does not include a notarial certificate, the notarization cannot be performed until the appropriate certificate wording is provided. Under Texas law, a Notary Public may not choose, draft, or add a notarial certificate for a signer. The signer must confirm the required notarial act with the requesting or receiving authority (such as a government agency, court, school, or financial institution).
